      FLYBALL!  COME JOIN THE FUN!

Fyball is one of the fastest growing dog sports in America!  In this high-energy activity, dogs learn to dash over a series of hurdles, retrieve a tennis ball that pops out of a special spring-loaded box when they step on the front of it, and then they must quickly turn and jump back over the hurdles again.  In competitions, this is done as a relay race with two teams of four dogs each, running in two side-by-side lanes, and the fastest team wins!  (see some photos BELOW of a recent competition)  All breeds are welcome to join the fun, mixed breeds as well as purebred dogs.

  In our beginning Flyball classes, you can have your dog try out this fun sport, first working with him to learn jumping the hurdles, and then teaching him where to step on the box to trigger the mechanism to release that ball.  Many dogs catch on quickly and can hardly wait 'till next week's class when they get to play this active game again!  Who knows... Maybe YOUR dog will become SO enthusiastic about Flyball, you will have to sign him up to join a team so he can go to tournaments to show off his athletic abilities!  Or, maybe he'll just enjoy attending class so he can enjoy some quality time with his human, and have some social interaction with other doggie friends!  Whatever his interests or abilities are, he is sure to have some fun trying out some new skills, and you'll have fun getting together with other dog owners too.  (Here are some photos taken recently at class) So sign up now and don't miss the fun!   The fee for the 8-week session in most co-sponsoring cities is $69-$72 per dog.    Bear  Brand Park in Laguna Niguel, off Camino del Avion     between Golden Lantern and Niguel Rd., next to St. Ann's School...   Turn on Bear Brand Park Rd. and you will see park entrance immediately on your left. Go all the way to the back of the park, past all of the athletic fields.

 Te Winkle Park in Costa Mesa, located just north of the Orange County Fairgrounds... Take Arlington from either Newport Blvd. or Fairview, turn north on Junipero and park in first parking lot on your right... Class meets on grass near tennis courts.  Starting Fall '07, the orientation meeting will be held in the Neighborhood Community Center, 1845 Park Ave, (near 19th) in Costa Mesa, with subsequent meetings at TeWinkle Park.

Below are some pictures of the Flyball competition held at "Wags for Wishes" in Del Mar, California in July, 2005.  Patty and Debbie went to watch all the exciting doggie sports (agility, lure-coursing, dock-dogs, frisbee, flyball, herding, obedience, and more) and it was a blast!  Watch for this event again (FIRST WEEKEND IN JULY EVERY YEAR) and plan to attend ... lots of fun for all!
